School Creative Art Workshop

Deborah works with schools to deliver interactive art experiences, including Community Canvas projects. A vibrant base design is prepared as the foundation for the artwork. Workshops can be organised by class or year group and run in multiple sessions over one or more days. Deborah introduces herself, shares her art practice, and may present a short slideshow before students begin the hands-on workshop. Students, along with staff and parent helpers, contribute to the artwork by painting dots and adding to the overall design. Upon completion, the artwork is professionally stretched and sealed with a protective coating for long-term display.
Alternatively to the Community Canvas, students can create individual artworks on canvas under Deborah’s guidance, using professional materials, and take home their finished piece.

Benefits of a corporate creative workshop include:
  • Boosting workplace morale and engagement.
  • Opening alternative channels of communication in a fresh, creative environment.
  • Producing a lasting collaborative artwork that can be displayed in the workplace or kept by participants.
  • Fostering company pride, team identity, and rewarding staff, while supporting productivity and staff retention.

Community Canvas & Public Events

  • Large-scale collaborative artworks for councils, festivals, and NAIDOC Week
  • Fun, inclusive, and culturally respectful projects
  • Perfect for community celebrations and public events
[Explore Community Projects]
A Community Canvas is an interactive public art experience delivered at community events, where attendees are invited to contribute to a collaborative artwork throughout the day. These projects are commonly hosted or sponsored by local councils, government organisations, and corporate partners. Prior to the event, a preliminary design is developed and the canvas is pre-prepared with a vibrant base layout. During the event, participants are supported with guidance and supervision to ensure the artwork remains cohesive as it evolves. After the event, final detailing is completed to refine and balance the composition, before the artwork is professionally stretched (if required) and sealed with a protective coating for long-term display.

Individual Art Workshops

Individual art workshops can be delivered one-on-one or as a group session, with each participant creating their own artwork under the guidance of artist Deborah Bonar. Workshops can be tailored to suit the group and may include painting on sneakers, plywood, card, canvas, or other creative surfaces. Each participant will take home their completed artwork at the end of the workshop.

Planning for a Creative Art Workshop

When booking a creative art workshop, it’s important to allow enough lead time for concept development, design planning, and preparation of materials. Key factors include participant numbers, age group, available time, workshop location, artwork size, materials required, and where the finished artwork will be displayed. You may also wish to include an artist talk or slideshow presentation. These details help determine the overall workshop format and budget.
If the artwork is intended for outdoor display, it may be created on marine ply. Indoor artworks are typically painted on canvas. Workshop duration will depend on the size of the artwork and the number of participants involved. Larger projects often require two or more sessions to allow paint to dry and to achieve the best outcome.
All workshops include design planning, professional art materials, paints, and full facilitation, including set-up and pack-up. The completed artwork becomes the property of the hosting school or organisation. Professional artist-quality paints are supplied, with shared paint resources remaining the property of the artist for future workshops.
