Cultural Background & Practice

Deborah’s cultural identity as a Gija and Yamaji woman informs every aspect of her artistic practice. Her work is grounded in respect for Country, family and cultural knowledge, translated through colour, pattern and intuitive mark-making rather than literal depiction.
Rather than telling a single story, each artwork invites viewers to connect emotionally — allowing space for personal reflection while honouring the cultural foundations from which the work emerges.
